Meet Lauren

aboutme2Having to write about myself has got to be one of the hardest things in the world. I’ve started and deleted this section so many times because everything I start to write feels like an attempt to “sell myself” to you and just feels phony so instead, I’m going to get real. Here goes.

*I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia

*In 2006, I met my husband Dennis at Scotty Quixx in Norfolk.

*Ironically enough, there are 3 things I said I’d never do… marry someone I met in a bar, marry someone in the military, and marry someone I knew less than 3 years. In an ironic twist of fate, I married Dennis (who happens to be in the Navy) less than 8 months from the date we met in that bar.

*Thanks to the Navy we’ve lived in Hawaii and Connecticut before ultimately ending back up in Virginia in the Fall of 2012.

*We have two AMAZING kids who drive us fathersday-18absolutely crazy. Charlie who is 7 and Shelby who is 1.  If they’ve taught me anything, it’s that I can’t control everything and letting go of that need for control was a huge turning point in my life. It’s also helped mold my photography career by forcing me to accept that life is going to happen the way it’s supposed to and sometimes it’s not perfect but most of the time those real moments are so much better than “pinterest perfection.”

*I am the ultimate craft nerd and the queen of “do it yourself” projects. Michael’s is quite possibly one of my favorite places in the world and creating things is one of the biggest sources of stress relief for me.

*We rescue dogs… specifically pit bull type dogs. We have 3 former shelter “pit bulls” and an old man Boston Terrier who runs the show.  Over the last few years, we’ve fostered 9 18922140_10103488322506088_3068133362778213071_ndogs for a local bully breed rescue where our dogs have taught “broken dogs” how to simply be dogs again, and we’ve been able to show them what real love is. Seeing where those dogs are now in their forever homes and how they are thriving is one of the most amazing things ever and being an advocate for the “underdog” is something that I will always be passionate about.

*Speaking of being passionate, my passion for wedding photography is ultimately what made me decide to focus solely on that. While I love photographing newborns and families, there is something to be said for being responsible for capturing such an amazing and important day in two people’s lives and I want to invest all of my energy and focus into being the best possible wedding photographer I can be, to constantly strive to learn and grow within this industry, and to be as passionate about your wedding day as you are. I get inspired by real life and spontaneous interactions and my goal is to capture you in an authentic way that shows the essence of what lies beneath your story, your relationship, your life, and the celebration of your commitment with friends and family.
